Sculling

In Sculling we row in light rowing boats using two oars per person. Sculling boats can be rowed by one rower (referred to as a single), two rowers (double), or four rowers (quad). Sometimes the boat is steered by a coxswain, but most of the time the rowers set the course.

sculling program

Overview
The Sculling Program is ideal for those who want to get out on the water, work on their watermanship, and hone those sculling skills. You will have the benefit of having a coach on the water in a launch to provide a safe and supported sculling environment. The coach will give you individual coaching on what you might want to work on to improve your skills.

This is an opportunity for those scullers wanting to become bow certified to master all of the maneuvering skills required to bow a blind boat. This program is targeted to smaller boats – singles and doubles – rather than quads to ensure safe coverage of all on the water.

clinic: new to single sculling

Overview
In this New to Single Sculling Clinic, we will introduce rowers to the art of sculling solo in a safe and small group setting - only 4 rowers per clinic. This is a great opportunity to get into a single boat for the very first time.

We can work on specific needs, such as technique and maneuvering, but also towards BCR sculling certification. This clinic is not suitable for experienced single scullers, since quite a bit of time is spent near the dock and in the cove.

Dates and Schedule
This clinic includes three practice sessions over the course of two days:

Saturday June 29:

  • Practice session 1, 8:00 - 9:30am

  • 30 minute break

  • Practice session 2, 10:00 - 11:30am

clinic: flip test

Overview
Boats flip sometimes, particularly sculling boats. In this class, you’ll learn how to turn a boat back over and either get back in or swim the boat to shore. Then, you will purposely flip a single sculling boat and practice your new knowledge. Each rower that successfully either gets back in the boat or swims it to shore will have fulfilled the Flip Test component for being BCR sculling certified.
